Infrastructure

The modern laboratory of the Department is a place of research, education and information. Inside this, students and professors are able to:

  • Watch developments in international money markets through Bloomberg
  • Have direct access to many data bases as: Bloomberg (Bloomberg Terminal), Thomson Reuters Eikon, Thomson Reuters Datastream, Orbis Bankfocus
  • Get access through the net of the University of Piraeus to many Bibliographic bases like: Econlit, JSTOR, NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research), Springer link, Elsevier, The Economist Historical Archive 1843:2003)
  • Use econometric software or programming languages for the data analysis, such as: Econometric Views, Gauss, MATLAB, WinRATS
  • Get access to e-mails for an effective communication and to internet for collection of information
  • Get informed about the world of enterprises and money markets through the economics press, as Financial Times, Express, Imerisia, Naftemporiki etc.
  • The students have access as well to all the installations and services of the University of Piraeus.

The laboratory was created by a co-funding through OPEIVT (operational program for education and initial vocational training). Its technical equipment was initially renewed by the gentle sponsorship of the companies Plaisio and Infoquest, while next the cost is mainly covered by the revenues of the Graduate Program.

The laboratory is staffed mainly by doctoral students who provide guidance and help in the use of many software programs, while the operational cost comes mainly from the revenues of the Graduate Program.
