Seminar Series in Finance
The departmental academic seminar series in Finance is organized by Assistant Professor Michail Anthropelos (anthropel@unipi.gr ) and Professor George Skiadopoulos (gskiado@unipi.gr ). It runs since 2005 and part of the series is supported by Piraeus Bank (February 2018 – December 2018). It takes place over the academic terms on Thursdays 16:15-18:00 at the main building of University of Piraeus. The seminars treat topics in asset pricing, asset management, corporate finance and accounting, financial econometrics, market microstructure, risk management and other areas of finance. Our guest speakers from leading universities, research centers, and central banks in Greece and abroad present their latest research. Seminars are well attended by faculty members, academics from other universities, doctoral students and practitioners.
In the past, well-known researchers from leading universities like Cornell, Chicago, Columbia, ECB, HEC Lausanne, INSEAD, LBS, LSE, McGill, New York University, National University of Singapore, Northwestern, Oxford, UCLA, University of Southern California, University of Vienna, University of Zurich, University of Warwick, Wharton, etc and institutions such as Bank for International Settlements, European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund, New York Fed, etc have presented their papers.
The department of Banking and Financial Management of the University of Piraeus is the oldest department in Finance in Greece and has awarded honorary doctorates to Professor George Constantinides (University of Chicago) and Professor Stephen Ross (MIT). The departmental stuff has published in journals like American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Finance, Review of Finance, Journal of Business, etc.
